A Star is Born and Pre-K Graduation!

I almost exploded with Pride as we sat in our seats and watched our little Drew Bug walk out on stage all by himself, collecting sticks and throwing them in his cart for the first scene of his Pre-K Graduation play. As I mentioned in my last post, he told me he was the boy…I had no idea that he was “The Boy” who lost his mitten…the subject and main character of the play. Proud does not even begin to describe how I felt.
The stage...

Drew putting the "found mitten" on at the end of the play.

After the play, there was a short intermission and the kids all went back and changed into their graduation caps and gowns. They then marched to the “graduation song” through the gym and up onto the stage.

Next they sang a couple of songs and did the “Cha Cha Slide” dance. We all laughed when Drew stopped in the middle of the dance where they were all doing the “Cha Cha real smooth” portion of the dance and said, “I won’t do that!”  Darren was rather happy with his revolt of the silly dance part.

As they were each called up to receive their diploma, they described what each child’s favorite thing learned in Pre-K and what they wanted to be when they grew up. Drew said his favorite thing was learning to read and that he wanted to be a football player (hmmm…do I have a little Tom Brady on my hands??). Before the ceremony started, the Director of the school said that this class was one of the smartest they have worked with. She said almost all the kids were reading at about a mid-year, 1st grade level and that they were all beyond ready for Kindergarten.

After the ceremony, we all went out for a celebration dinner. I made a cake and decorated it with a top-ten list of Drew’s favorite things about Pre-K.

Before the ceremony, we took some family pictures.

Congratulations Drew! We love you so much and can’t wait to experience all the exciting things in store for you!

Princess Poops-A- Lot!

Sorry, not a lot of pictures to accompany this post. I'm pretty sure that after you read below you will thank me for not sharing any images.

Yes, you read the title right. I can’t believe I’m going to write about this topic but I’m staying true to the purpose of this blog… all about the details of our lovely little life. Well, sometimes those details can be a bit gross…okay, a lot gross but at the same time pretty hysterical.

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day and we spent the day at Susan Park with both sides of our family as well as the Gansert family. Such a great day, the weather was perfect and we scored a great picnic spot right next to the playground. Let me just preface this story with the fact that Brooke had been on an antibiotic for most of the week for an ear infection. This piece of information is important because the antibiotic seems to make her #2’s not as ummm…solid as normal (sorry but this really is a key element of the story).

Here we go… Darren was keeping an eye on Brooke as she explored the playground. I walked over just as he was lifting her up to the slide platform. The park was SUPER crowded and she had to wait her turn to go down the slide. She sat down at the top of the slide and was ready to go…excitement all over her face! Two little scoots with her feet and woosh…she was on her way. Yeah!! We were clapping as she sat at the end of the slide waving her arms in excitement. Immediately we start hearing kids yelling oooh…gross…what is that?? As I turn my head to look back at the slide… I see a “mud” trail down the ENTIRE slide.

The next few moments were a frantic mess…literally. Darren ran off with his Mom to find the wipes while the ENTIRE playground is staring in our direction trying to figure out what the heck is happening over at the slide. I pulled Brooke off the slide and stood to the side while ALL the kids on the playground are yelling gross, nasty, disgusting, she pooped. When I close my eyes… I can still hear their words echoing in my head. I then looked over to the picnic area where our family was gathered and watched their reaction as they see Darren and Janet running over for wipes. As they learned what happened, a huge roar of laughter erupted as they turned to see the “poop shoot” …aka slide with Princess Poops-A-Lot and I frozen next to the crime scene. Now that is a Happy Mother’s Day!

I promise…I don’t like talking about this subject. The reality of being a parent of two young kids is that unfortunately, it is a huge part of my life. So having said that…on to the next Poops-A-Lot chapter.

This past weekend the weather was gross. Cold, grey and rainy…no outside playtime at all! By Sunday afternoon the kids were climbing the walls and full of energy. It was bath night and Darren suggested that Drew take a bath in the big tub. Of course, Brooke wanted in on the action as well. Things started off great. Darren filled the tub and even put in some bubble bath which is a rare treat. He then turned on the jets for the tub and the next thing we knew the bubbles were rapidly growing and overtaking the tub… and our kids. Brooke could not sit down because the bubbles were so high. We immediately decided to drain the water which just left a tub full of bubbles (reminded me of those Cancun Spring Break foam parties).

The kids were playing and having SO much fun. I was thinking this accidental bubble overload has turned into a great (boring, rainy day) activity for them. At this point the kids were playing and I was actually cleaning the bathroom (multi-tasking at its best). Darren was coming in and out of the bathroom to check on the situation. I started to smell an unwelcomed odor and immediately thought Darren was doing a bit of ummm, “crop dusting”. If you know Darren, this is not unlikely at all. He denied the action and we immediately turned our attention to the tub. Our initial look at the tub showed no signs of problem. But mind you, there are two feet of bubbles to contend with. So I had to stick my hand into the unknown bubble land in search of something I did NOT want to find. And well…I found it. The kids at the park yelling oooh, gross…what is that… immediately started to echo in my head. We immediately evacuated the kids from the tub due to unwanted “floaties” and we stuck them in the shower.

Yes, another weekend…another poop story. I really hope that our “streak” of Princess Poops-A-Lot stories is over for my sake...and yours!
"Mom what is that smell??"

And yes, here is the little princess herself!

The Sweetest Mother’s Day Manicure!

I felt terrible last Friday when Drew’s school was hosting a special Mother’s Day Spa complete with manicures...and I was not able to attend (insert broken heart here). My company was hosting its annual golf outing and this was the first year I was invited. To make matters even more complicated, I was partnered with the CEO of the company….yikes! There was no way I could back out of the event or show up late. Luckily, there were other Mommies who also were not able to attend the spa day so another day was scheduled for everyone unable to attend (yeah!!).

This was such a cute and unique idea…I loved having my special manicurist give me the works and he was so proud!

The waiting area of the "spa".

"Mom, are your hands Dry? Let's try some of this sugar scrub to make them soft."

Drew selected a very bright and sparkly pink polish for me.

He worked so hard to make sure ALL the nails were completly covered.

I just LOVE this little bug!
