I’m in total denial…
I just don’t want my baby girl to grow up! I can’t believe in less than a month she will be 1! I haven’t planned the party yet, I haven’t scheduled her 1-year pictures, I haven’t picked out the invitations, thought about the theme…nothing. And that is SO not like me. I can’t get excited about this monumental event in her life because I just don’t want my perfect baby girl to grow up. I know most of this can be attributed to the fact that she is the last baby…two and done. I’m still totally on board with this decision but I just wish I could press the “slow down” button and enjoy her babiness a bit longer. We have enjoyed Brooke so much and she has been so easy and pleasant and well…perfect! Life with Brooke makes us all smile. So now it is time for me to stop my own little pity party and and start planning a fantastic 1st birthday celebration!
And to add more salt to my already open wound...she took two steps the other day.
Soccer Kid…
In the past Drew has done Kickaroos and another soccer program at the Y. Up to this point, the programs all focused on drills and skills. This fall he has been playing on a team with the City of O’Fallon. This team is different because they are actually playing little games. Three on three plus a coach and no goalie and basically a “heard” of kids all going after the same ball.
The first game he was not all that interested or focused. Second game did not start off well. He didn’t want to play, wouldn’t sit on the bench with the team, and was having a FULL meltdown on the sidelines. Everything I was said to him was throwing him deeper into the tantrum and making the situation worse. I finally told Drew that I was going to go sit on the sidelines and cheer on the rest of his team. Darren and I were both beyond frustrated at this point. He remained on the sideline and pouted for another five minutes before finally making his way over to the team bench. After another five minutes of bench time, he raised his hand and told the coach he was ready to play. That game he scored 3 goals and you could see that the competitive fire was ignited!!
From this point forward he has been a machine. Every game he has scored multiple goals (7 this past weekend) and has developed and improved every game. This past weekend he even passed the ball to a teammate who then scored. After every goal he is so excited and immediately looks over to us on the sidelines with his arms raised high in the air in celebration. He is really good and we are having so much fun watching the little tornado run around the field. So proud of the little soccer machine. I’ll post some video very soon!
